EP.'S HOUSE DESTROYED. ATTEMPTS TO IGNITE A CHURCH. By Telegraph—Frees Association—Copyiight (Gcc. April IG, 10.25 p.m.) London, April 15. Suffragettes burned a house belonging to Mr. Arthur Du- Cros, M.P., at St. Leonard's. The damage is estimated at several thousands of pounds. The houso was elaborately decorated and ono of the finest in St. Leonard's. The furniture had recently been removed owing to tho expiry of the tenancy. Tho suffragettes set fire to different rooms, and left pamphlets about. When the firemen were extinguishing the flames several explosions occurred. The damage is set down at .£12,000. To obtain entry the suffragettes covered one of the windows with a thick paper, whereon was a layer of jam. They then broke the window and unfastened the latch. The suffragettes have made persistent attempts to burn Saint Luke's Church at Abercarn. The floor was.saturated with paraffin, and the roof was damaged. Letters in the Central Post Office pillar boxes at Sheffield were set on fire. Suffragettes cut the telegraph and telephono wires at Bath, near a railway tunnel.
OPEN-AIR MEETINGS VETOED. London, April 15. Tho Home Secretary has prohibited the Women's Social and Political Union from holding open-air meetings in tho metropolitan area.
