Si- Gerald Strickland, to make a complete reorganisation of the staff, the AttorneyGeneral explains that, Mr, .Houston'.was not paid, for his services, but that he occasionally received bonuses. He intimated to Sir Gerald Strickland that he did riot desire to retain tha, position unless the received regular remuneration. The' Government of New, i South Wales grants sixteen hundred pounds yearly towards the expenses of the 1 administration of tho'island, and is not disposed to iftcreaso the amount. Sir Gerald Strickland is prepared to assume all the administrativei duties j therefore Mr. Houston's resignation has been accepted. The AttorneyGeneral denied that there had been any friction over the matter. •
