The Hon. W. F. Alasscy (Prime Minister) will leave on Tuesday next for ilio Kin;; Country, where lie will spend four or five days in inspecting settlement areas (including sonic of tlio special settlements) in his capacity as Minister for Agriculture. Atterwards Mr. Massey will spt-iul a few days in Auckland before returning to "Wellington. He expccts to reach Auckland on April 28. Tire Hon. AW 11. Her lies is in Otngo. He wits at Alillon last evening. Tlje Hon. It. It. miotics is at Christeiuirch, and tlio Hon. Dr. I'omare in Auckland. The other Cabinet Ministers aro in Wellington. Colonel Cliaytor was a'passenger by the Maori for the smith last evening. Air. A. It. Meek, who is resigning his seat 011 the A'ietoria College Council, was thanked for his services at the meeting last evening. The chairman (Mr. C. AVilson). in expressing regret at Air. Meek's departure from the council, remarked that lie was only voicing general opinion. During the eleven years in which Mr. Meek had served on the council lie had been singularly assiduous in attending the meetings and in the performance of his duties had always given his time freely and without reward. Mr. Meek, in the course of a brief reply, congratulated the council on securing the services of Mr. C. li. Morison, who was to succeed him. Advico has been received by the A r icar General, Den O'Slieu, to the effect that his Graco Archbishop licdwood, who is returning from Europe, arrived at Freluantlo on Tuesday in good health. The Mayor of Onslow (Air. I'. Holdsworth) entertained tlio borough councillei's .after last night's meeting of the municipality's executive. The meeting was tlio last of tlio present council—the meeting immediately preceding tlio elections. Among the toasts honoured were: "Tho Mayor,' "Retiring Councillors," 'Tlio borough Clerk" (Air. Abraham), "Tlio Borough Engineer" (Jlr. Routliwaite), "Councillor B. Lynneberg," and "Past Councillors." Councillors spoke in terms of high appreciation of tho work dono by tho Mayor. Councillor Lynneberg, tlio longest-service councillor, was praised for having taken "more interest ill tlio welfare of the borough than any ratepayer ever imagined." Both Jlr. Abraham and Jlr. Kouthwaito were complimented 011 their work. The Mayor, when declaring that the borough had han a successful year, observed that tho staff had dona very goo:l work. The balancesheet, ho said, was ready eleven days after the end oi the financial year, which was a record for tlio borough. He thought that Air. Abraham end tho staff should get special crcdit for that. Jlr. Russell, manager of the Empress Theatre, Willis Street, is resigning tiiat position. He intends to leave for Sydney next week. Mr. Lister, who up till the present lias managed the Sim-hiring business for the J. D. Williams Company, will succeed Mr. Russell as manager. So far Jlr. J. AW M'Etven, tlio present Jlayor, is the only announced candidate for the' Mayoralty of Petone.
On account of his time being fully occupied Mr. W. H. Bowden lias decided not to becomc a candidate for the Kaiwarra Ward of Onslow Borough at tho coming elections. Our Mnsterton correspondent states that Messrs. C. B. Daniell and Alex. M'Farlano were yesterday elected unopposed as representalivcs of the Wairnrapa Combined District oil tho Wellington Harbour Board.
