irrom Oi-r Special Correspondent.) 6- .— Tho Petono Working Men's Club have forwarded an invitation to tli« ship's company of H.M.S. New Zealand to Visit Petone. This week has been set aside as "Ambulance Week" at Petone. Ladv members of the committee will visit tlie Gr -r Company' and Woollen Mills 011 Thursday, and the Workshops on Friday. Intimation was received in I'etom torday to the effect that the Education Department had decided to pay the fares of all children attending School who desire to visit H.M.S. New Zealand. This means that the age restriction has now been removed, and every child will be allowed to view th« Dreadnought. A special train will leave Petono at 9.50 a.m. on Friday, April 18, returning from Wellington at 3.55 p.m.

UPPER HUTT BATES. At the adjourned mooting of tlie Upper Hutt Town Board on • Monday evening, tho rating was fixed for the current year at 2d. in the .E on tho recently-introduced system of rating upon the unimproved value as against Id. in tho £ on tho capital value. The water rate added, at 1 1-lGths of a penny in the £, and the Town Board's share in Hutt Road improvement works, will possibly bring tho whole Town Board area rating up to Id. in the £, by reason of tho change in the incidence of taxation. The new commissioners intend "making hasto slowly" meanwhile.
