ONSLOW BOROUGH.

THE COMING ELECTIONS. As Mr. Frank Holdsworth, present Mayor of Onslow, has decided in response to requests to onca more offer himself For re-election to the Mayoral chair, it is anticipated that there will be a ' walkover" as far as tho election for Mayor is concerned. • As tho configuration of -,thfi borough IS peculiar, candidates for tho Onslow Borough Council are returned on a threeward basis, each ward being entitled to return three councillors. The present representatives of Ngaio ward- arc :_ Messrs. Lynneberg, Darvall, and C. Aplin, juu.> all of whom will offer themselves for reelection. They will probably not be returned unopposed, as Messrs. Brown and C. Munro are mentioned as probable can-, didates for that ward. Messrs. S. Stafford, Bates, and Captain M'Arthur, the present representatives of the Khandallah ward, are retiring and do not, it is understood, Jntend to stand again.- Candidates for this ward are always scarce, and only one'name is so far mentioned— that of Mr. C. E. Alderson. The third ward, Kaiwarra, is at present represented by Messrs. Gardner, Bowden, and Diugwall. It is unlikely that the last-named two will stand again. In addition to electing n Mayor and nine councillors, tho ratepayers will be asked, on April 30, to vote upon the advisability of instituting a liigh-pres-suro water service, which is estimated to cost about £18,000. The catchment area 'has already been secured and paid for. and it is proposed that tho sum mentioned shall be raised for the erection • of a dam to hold 500,000 gallons of water, and. for tho roticulation of the wholo of the borough with the exception of Lower Kaiwarra, which is supplied by a branch of the city's Wainui main.
