' $ ; Mr. W. Little, of the Otaki railway staff, who has been on a visit to tho far north, as well as visiting southern townships, has resumed duty. Mr. J. W. Poynton, local magistrate, is at present on holiday. The position is leing filled pro tem by Mr. Edward Page, of tho Taihape district. Mr. W. Karsten, a woll-known settler of Waikanae, has leased a farm at Manakau. Mr. Bryant, of Palmcrston North, has purchased Mr. Perrett's farm at South Manakau. Anglicans hero aro arranging for a bazaar, to bo held about the middle of the year. Several meetings have already beon held, and the ladies interested have l>eon promised good support. A request for a grant of 4:1300 in aid of providing more accommodation at tho local Native College, lias met with refusal by the Secretary for Education. At present there is not sufficient room for boarders, and consequently members have to bo refused admission. It is hoped that when tho lease of tho ground expires, which will bo in about two years' time, tho school will be put on a" more substantial footing. There aro 000 acressome of it excellent land—which should bring in an income that should mako tho wholo self-supporting, besides giving a good margin of funds for extended accommodation.
