Sir,—ln your issue of February 19. appeared an anonymous letter over the int ltials- "R.D.;" the writer of'.which 1 stated ; ; that he happened to be teaching in the Perth.-Boys-vSchftol," and that-while;each minister giving'his'religious-iliitruc- , (ion, the children.of : other denominations : were out in the. playground, thereby losing several hours secular instruction per '• Week.' r.'senf this'letter "to'the Director 1 of Education of Western Australia,- and today received hfs reply as follows:— "The statement in. regard to James Street is absolutely untruo as far as these - Inst fifteen years are concerned. The ministers of the' different denominations at- ' tend' at the safne.time.- Any children who ? are not attending special.religious instrucf tion are always taking secular work> andare never oiit in the playground." , This is another example of the farfetched allegations which'are made by our opponents. . in'this case the anonymous writer 1 gave the; name of a school, so that v,-e. were able to sheet it : home. The testimonies which we have published-invariably' give the name and ' address of the witness and the date of his ' testimony, so that' they are open to the : fullest investigation.. We would have reasonable cause of complaint but for the fact that it shows their inability to set aside the mass of evidence given by individuals from their personal knowledge • that the system (which the league is proposing for -New Zealand) does not set up the difficulties which our opponents al- • lege.—ram, etc.,- • - D.
