A NOTED BETROTHAL.

The news of tho betrothal of Princess Victoria' Louise, the Kaiser's only daughter, has been received everywhere with unbounded satisfaction, and not even an alliance >vith the Crown Princo ot Saxony, which was a very favourite prediction of tho Berliners, could have been more popular (writes the Berlin correspondent of tho "Observer")' A feud of nearly fifty years' standing between the Houses of Guelph and Hohcnzollern, which tho Emperor frequently endeavoured to terminate, has now been eliminated. Tho pleasure of the Duke of Cumberland is as great as that ot tho. Emperor, while the only drawback to the ICaiserin's happiness is that not she, but Prince Max of Baden, played providence 'in this absorbing love aflair, for her Imperial Majesty, like all- hapmly wedded women, is a grout'matchmaker and a firm believer in early marriages. Tho wedding is already fixed for October 22, the birthday of tho Kaisorin, and it will bo celebrated with n l tho pomp accorded usually to the bride ot a Prussian Crown Prince. In tht> meantime Prince Ernst will be near his fiancee, in tho regiment of tho Ziethen Hussars, which he has entered by her wish. Tho rumour that the Princo will ascend the Throne of - Brunswick has yet to receivo confirmation, but that tho Emperors daughter will be quite exceptionally endowed is a fact. The leading committee of the Guelph party will meet at Hanover to discuss the new political situation that has arisen in view of the reconciliation of both Houses.
