Gladioli- was half a head awaV third, a I)rad separating Ilormia and Blue Lake, who were fourth and fifth. Time, lmin. 15sce. (By Telcsraph.—Special Reporter.) Palmerston, April 10. Glorious weather prevailed for the concluding day of'the ncing at Awapnni. The attendance was up to the average, but most backers had a bail day oivin;; (o the defeat of some very hoi: favmn iles. liinaldu credited Mr. -I. B. Reiil with hilirst Sires' Produce Stakes win. and upset u very hot older in Nighlwalch, whose iucki'.v had fzreat dUlieiilty iu keeping iiim uu the courio, The .whip had tu be an.
plied li> his nose, to try and make him keep in. There was a scriiuinago going uut of (lie straight in the Autumn, Handicap, ami Obligant was nearly down. Tho racing was very good, ami was devoid ut any untoward incidents. Durin" tho alternoon the stewards held an inMtiiry into a complaint by J, Goodwill that. Deeley hail npt ridileii Chaminiulo lo orders un tho iirst day. The complaint was not taken seriously, and Deeley was absolved. Aetna scored a iltiko victory in tin, Hack Hurdles, lliis being due to tin- overconfident handling of Sam l'an by A. M'J.-'lynii. At the start Waiouru led from Sam l'an, with tho others strung uut. Tho Hastings horse was ilying signals ol' distress nl'tor a mile had been covered, and Sam J'an took charge, ami led over tho lust l'cnec. Aetna then came pi.st, and, as slated above, an indifferent exhibition by MTlynn enabled her to win. Kauroa was third. Flingot and Itfiilanler ran badly. 'After tlw raco M'Flyim was before tho stewards, and severely admonished for carelessness. Arimlte, who was left yesterday, jumped out iirst in tlio Open Welter Handicap, and, leading the whole way, she won easily. Lady Volga was the favourite, but she did not get a good passage over the first part, and covered a lot of extra ground, She was lucky to get secot.il at tho finish, as Scottish Star, who Ix-gan slowly, and Gerberga were right with her. Kill ran badly, and seems to be right "off," while tho weight seemed to anchor Peroneal. Her rider was carpeted after the face, but gave a satisfactory explanation 11s to wiiy several of the runners got up un the rails l'rom liis mount'. The five furlongs Hack Raco provided a good finish between tlio first and second favourite—Tho Great Mogul and Master Lupiu. Tho former was boomed as the result of a good gallop over the distance, ill which 110 finished alongside I'owder Fox. Master Lupin camo in for support 011 account of the fact that he was at Trontham and not produced in a race, but was known'to be good. So he is, and, with tho least bit of luck, would have won, instead of being defeated bv a head. At each turn he hung out badly, and covered a lot of extra ground, while the favourite got a nice run on the fence the whole way. Elkmaid led to the turn, but tho favourite soon disposed of hor. He had to be ridden very hard to beat Master Lupin, who finished uncommonly ivell for a green horse. Conziska, 'Sepoy, and The Diver all showed up well.. Tho winner, who is owned iu Palmerston, was received witli cheers when lie returned to the bird-cage. The luck of the game was emphasised in. tho Sires' Proditco Stakes, when Rinaldo brought about tho defeat of Niglitwatc-li, with Salzburg (who was bracketed with tho winner) in third place. Tho favourite hung out badly round tlio bend, where Rinaldo, who ha'd keen badly placed, got through on the rails,. and gained a lot of ground." 111 tlio straight, liowevjr, tho favourite camo very fast, but Rinaldo then had too much of a. break to bo caught, and there was daylijjht between tho pair as they crossed tlio lino. Tho downfall of tho favourite waa a severe facer to backers, who sent tho Ckokeboro colours out a very warm favourite. Imriier and Bertrada wero badly placed over the first part, but each ran a good race. Considering that 110 was side on io tho barrier when it skied, the winner put iip £i good performance, even though JlO was lucky enough to run through on the fence the whole way. Papamarama and Aeliray wero 1 the favourite choices in the Hack Welter Handicap, and "they finished 111 the places, with Chaminadi) in third place. Aeliray .lumped to the front after a furlong had been gone, and, making a solid pace, lie ran ill a very easy winner from the first favourite, wlio was kicked out to - beat Chaniinade. Charge, a well-fancied candidate, got away badly, and finished out of a place. The winner was formerly owned in tho south, where lie won several races at small meetings, but !ie has not raced for over twelve months.'Ho is now located at Ciiisborue, and is trained, by Porter. Kina created a surprise by scoring comfortably in the Autumn Handicap, in which Obligant broke down badly, and a hot favourite—Coronifoi'm—finished out of a place. Lockwood and Lord Renown made tho pace from Sanguinary and Multiply, with Kina whipping tho field. The latter moved up 011 tho bend, and landed' a clear.run 011 the fence, lie got through in time to win by a couple of lengths from Multiply, with Lord Renown, Ceylon, and Lady JJolaii in'a cluster'.'".-' Gazetto was a better favourite than the bracketed Monologue and Rosalys in the Hack Flying Handicap, in'which .Silver Rose, after many disappointments, got a' winning turn. Tho last-named was in chargo after a furlong liatl been covered, and, never giving tho others a chance, ran in an easy winner by three lengths. Monologue was just clear of .General Madero, with Lady Louisa anil Gazetto close up. Fatronale and Gladiolo had a great duel for machine supremacy in the last race, and the former closed,up with the advantage. Tram a good start, Gladiolo and Blue Lake led Patronalo and Hermia till well into the straight, when the! favourite' got through and won a good raco by half a length. Mon Ami was tailed off in the iirst part, but slio ran a groat'raco, and dot third money. RE-HANDICAPS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Palmerston, April- 10.
