"The New Dressmaker," by Frank Hawthorne, . and tho Serenaders combined to make the . programme a most enjoyable one. HIS MAJESTY'S. A first-class programme is at present ; being screened at His Majesty's Theatre, including "The Wives of Jamestown." "The Fire Cop," "Sally in Our Alley," ; "Literature and Love," "Mind-Reading," and "Fooling Their Wive?." They wero all highly appreciated by Ihe audience. THE NEW THEATRE. There was an entire change of programme at tho New.Theatro continuous pictures yesterday. The principal subject was the Patlie dramagraph, "The Lust for Gold," which holds the close attention of spectators. The drama, "Tho Girl of the Mountains," is another line film, in which a jealous villain attempts to wreak vengeance upon a young doctor. "A Dangerous Wages" and other good pictures go to make up an attractive programme. KING'S THEATRE. The present week's picture programme at tho King's Theatre is decidedly attractive. "Back From tho Dead," "Tlie Wives of Jamestown," "Dr. Bridget," "Lconie," and "Curious Companions" are all good items, and the "Pathe Gazette" is also very interesting. EMPRESS THEATRE. Among the new pictures shown .at the Empress Theatre yesterday is o.ue entitled "The Supreme Test, au S. and A. drama of life among tho, society folk of America, A schemiug society widow goes between a young husband and his beautiful young wife. The wife sets out to return to her mother's home, and although her baggage gets 011 the train she misses it. A shocking railway accident kills many of the passengers, and, as the wife's luggage is found in tho debris, she is reported to have been killed. In tho meanwhile her husband discovers tlie society widow's duplicity, and is about to commit suicide when he learns of his wife's dentil, and she returns to his side in time to save liini. "There Were Hobos Three" (A.B. comedy), tolls a tale of three tramps who obtain appointments at a summer tourists' resort in the mountains. One is made a guide, another a life-saver at the lake, and the third has to imitate an echo which has gained considerable renown. The first two make a failure of their position, but the third becomes a hero in a most laughable manner. Other items are:— "The Legend of tho. Arrow" (Selig Indian drama), "Miss Sinipkins's Summer Boarders" (S. and ,A. comedy), "A Man Among,- Men" (drama), and "A Chance Deception" (A.B. drama). ; SHORTTS' THEATRE. After stealing tho (;irlV papers, the adventuress spends a joyous time in , tho guise of the poor girl, who is practically a prisoner in a poor hotel, but who eventually traces the person who wronged her. Complications follow, and the concluding scenes depict thn girl safely in tho nrins of her mother. Other good pictures are:— "Looking for n Job," "Pimple as a Ballet Dancer," "Why You Should Kill That Fly," and "Poet and Peasant." The programme will bo repeated to-day. "THE BLUE BIRD." The triumph •. achieved by "The Blu« Bird" in Auckland surpassed the most sanguine anticipations of the ■ J. C. Williamson management, and it will doubtless enjoy as successful a tour as that experienced by "Peter Pan." The reports of the magnitude of the production, and of the brilliant manner in which it is presented by' the new Williamson., company, are causing plaj-goors to look eagerly forward to Saturday, April 19, when it will be staged here for the first time. The critics are agreed that nothing more beautiful has been seen in Australasia. Not only is the delicate dialogue .of the play of a fairy charm, but tli6 lighting and musical effects arc of a wonderful character. Two remarkable children have been found in Gertie Creiner and Verba Spaull, who carry tho respective parts of Tyltyl and Mytyl. Each member of the company, which numbers over 100 artist's, was selected for his or her fitness for the characters they enact. Altogether there are over 100 travelling members of "The Blue Bird" Company. The box plan will bo opened 011 Wednesday next at tho Dresden.
