_0 WESTERN HUTT ELECTOR, v CANDIDATES CHOSEN. . A special', mcetiiig of the 'Western Hutt Electors Association. Iras held , jel, tiio Alicetown Schoolroom last evening. Mr. M'Dougall occupied thn rhnir, mirl .llinrn, was a good attendance, The chairman explained that the meeting had been called ,to consider a letter from Mr. Baldwin, in which that writer intimated that lie was prepared ,_|o eonsidcr the question of contesting -the' Hutt Mayoral election,,, provided that j tho association gave him their wholo-heartcd, support, lhe chairman said that if tho support of the association were given 'to Mr. Baldwin ho felt assured that he would contest the position. ' Mr. Anderson thought that Mr. Baldwin could not heal: Jliv and so it was futile lor the association" to support him. Ho would niovo that members be allowed a freo hand "in the Mayoral election. Mr. Freeman said that so far as he could judge, Mr. Bunny had given every satisfaction as Mayor, and there was no need to replace him. Mr. Smith was of the opinion that tho association was not strong enough to secure Mr. Baldwin's .return. Personally, lie would vote for Mr. Baldwin. Tho motion was carried, and it was decided to' write Mr. Baldwin to this effect. "Tlio-follow-ing worn nominated to., contest tho Hutt Council election:—Messrs. A. Parsonage, \V. G. Mcldrum, and W.Phypers. .Councillor Roots was also nominated, but asked for time to consider. On tlio motion of Mr. Phypers, it waSTCSblvecl'tliat" the whole meeting form itself into a committee to secure the return of all,tho nominees. * i... . The meeting was then adjourned till tonight, in order to discuss details and form a system of viligant campaign. It is understood that Mr. ;11. Fielder and Mr. A. Kennedy (a member of the Hutt River Board) will oiler themselves for election for the Lower Hutt Borough Council. . ...., A meeting of the Hutt River Board was held last ovening. Tho Lower'lltitt Borough Council wrote, stating that tliey required soil for top-dressing at,.the Recreation Ground, and risked the board if they could supply samo at 4d. nor cubic yard. —Granted. Tho nutt County Council wrote, stating that one of tho Diver Board's officials had stopped their men from carting gravel off private property on the river, and asked tho board to prevent this.—lt was resolved to inform the council that tho board had jurisdiction over all gravel froni. bauk„ io bank of the river, and that gravel .could only be taken from those places pointed out by the overseer. The overseer submitted a report as to works expenditure, clc. —Tlio report was adopted... : At a sitting of the Pet one Court yesterday morning (before Mr. .T. Wakcham, .T.P.) John "Mansfield, wh.o was brought up on a charge of drunkenness, was convicted and discharged, : and ordered to*' leave the district at once. Tho monthly competition of the llutt Valley Gun Club was held'at Taita on Wednesday, when the events decided were a live six-bird match'ami a 21 clav-bird mulch. In the first event. .IV Bra Sell. H. Philp, ami .A. Scoll lied, wilh six "kills" each. Brasell' won in the shoot-off, and lakes the trophy presented by tlio club. The clay-bird event was also'won by .1. Brasell wilh IS break* out of 21. Ho thus secures a "leg-in", for Mr. T. M. Wilford's tronliy. \V. Rilniislcr, 11. Philp, and W. Meager lied for sccmul place with 17 breaks each.
