A meeting of the Flood Belief Commits tee was held-this afternoon, on this .occasion associated with, the' council and a committee of gentlemen .appointed at last . night's meeting 'of residents to act independently. 'Mr.,-J. W.; Kelly asked whether tho ■ ./council or Relief Comniitteo was prepared to fall in with the opinion expressed at last night's meeting, and accept thooffers ' of . outside : assistance. ' ' Councillor Kelly said ho believed the • people of Goro could easily cope with all the distress that' existed. 'After, further' discussion, Councillor .'Rhodes, moved that' matters remain as they are; /'■- ■ . Councillor, Kelly moved that the meet- [ ing adjourn;' ' ' V . " Mr. J. x\.. Forbes ■ complained that a straight question had been asked and an ' aftstfer- was wanted. Not receiving au . answer, 'Mr. Forbes; mado to leave. '. . Subsequently, other ' members of last night's comniitteo.all departed amid, some . disorder, after a heated discussion without much respect to tho chair. , ■ ; The .Relief Committee remained be- , 'hind. . / . Councillor Martin moved that Mr, J. W. Kelly. be written to, and asked if. his committee 'would' meet the Relief 'Committee/to-morrow 'evening in confer- • ■ cnce to bo associated with. it on that occasion; Mr. Kelly moved, as.' an amendment, that the meeting adjourn until Monday evening- when the Mayor would be pre- '.- sent.' - , The amendment was lost on the casting .'■vote/of tho . chairman, and the motion . carried. , The-Relief Fund up to to-day amounts to ,£297 odd. , •Wo have received the following tele-, gram from Gore;— Public meeting of citizens of Gore'consider urgent need of outside assistant.) result of -flood Contributions thankfully received ,by J. W. ■ Kelly (chairman), and J.' A. I'orbes (Becre- ' tary Citizens' Relief Committee). - - A similar telegram, has been received by his Worship the Mayor (Mr. D. M'Laren). •Mr.,M'Laren states "that he recognises that , the'.distress ,that 'is, being felt by our -fellow citizens of tho Dominion is •■■pretty acute.! As soon as the. letter ar'7; Tived he will tako the opportunity of '. consulting. the citizens as to . the best means of giving as full relief as they can,. In tho meantimo he 'will bo glad to take charge !of any donations'given towards re-, iieviug .the distress.
