.. ~ i LOCAL UNION'S ATTITUDE. Nearly two years ago, whtn tho Hon, E. M'Kenzio was -Minister for Public ■ Works, some, stir was caused in municipal circles by u Government proposal to issuo now tramway regulations giving extended powers -of control and inspection. to tho_ Government.. A representative /municipal conference was convened, and eventually a conference of' tramway experts, sitting privately, considered the regulations in detail, and furnished a report to. tho'Government, suggesting certain alterations and amendments. Nothing official since been heard about tho regulations.! They have not been gazetted, neither has it been officially in- , timated that they, 'havo been withdrawn •' /l'liß Hon, -Wi Eraser stat<!d-.wl»en the, matter was mentioned to him a few days ago that tho regulations were in hand, and; with certain- modifications, would ba gazetted shortly. ■ • 1 ■ Mr. W. C. Soot, secretary of tlis Wellington Tramways Union, has now writ, ten. to tho Minister for Public Works, stating that his union is anxious to seo Uio regulations issued. Mr. Noot has also made representations to the Minister with regard to a proposal by "■■tho Mayor of Auckland (MivC. J. Parr) that legislation should be introduced to give tho Auckland City power to control'tho Auckland tramways, at present, run by , a company. Tho Auckland Union has communicated with tho local secretary, asking for Wellington's co-oper-ation in opposing such a proposal, and urging that tho Minister abide by tho present Act. A deputation to Mr. Fraser on these matters is. being arranged. '
