.(Before ,Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) RECENT JEWELLERY THEFTS. SUSPECT REMANDED. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, Glyn Ivor Hazel was charged with having, on March 22, broken into and entered tho sliod ol' Frederick J. Glackiri, at Levin, and with having stolen about 34' watches, 14 gold rings, 20 brooches, one pair of sleeve links, one gold bracelet, live bangles, nine gold necklets, foui sovereign easre, one greenstone chain, one pair silver scissors, two pairs of pliers, of a total value of -£150, tho property of Fred. J. Glackin. , . He was charged, furthsr, with breaking and entering into and stealing from (he shop of Alexander Henderson, at Masterton, ten gold pencils, a. few child's, gold bangles, ten gold medals, six silver petrol pipe-lighters, twelve gold band rings, twelve silver head necklets, six ladies' silver wrist watches, four small wristlets, one pair sapphire and diamond earrings, one pajr pearl earrings, and about 24 white metal chains, of a total value of about .£BO, property of Alexander Henderson. On tho application of Chief-Detective Broberg, accused was remanded till the lGtli. No .bail was applied for. OTHER CASES. Norman William Scumbury, who was beforo tho court oil a charge of theft, was remanded, on the application of tho police, till Wednesday next. Bail was fixed in i£lo, and two sureties of .£2O each. Fitzgerald Clark, charged .with! assaulting Edward Doherty, was again remanded tiill next Wednesday. Bail was fixed as before. John Power, alias O'Brien, charged with stealing a portmanteau valued at ,£5 from G. T. B. Davis, was further remanded t ; U next Saturday. Martha Berry was charged with intending to conceal'the birth of her child. Mr. T. M..Wilford appeared for accused, and Chief-Detective Broberg for tlio'pro sedition. Counsel for the. defence raised the point of lack of eridence of intent to conceal. His Worship dismissed tho case, and added that the points of law raised were of some importance, and could bo tested if necessary.
