RUGBY UNION MEKTIXG OP TIIE COMMITTEE. The weekly meeting of (lie Management Committee of tho Wellington Rugby Union was hold last night. There were present: Messrs. E. 0. Hales (chiiirinan), W. Ferry, W. F. Hornig, E. Little, I). Weir, A. E. Wilson, \V. Harillmm, H. Buck, A. C. Kitto, and Ci. 11. Howe. The secretary of the Hutt Club wrote asking to have, all matches foivthe third and fourth fifteens of his club postponed 011 April 19 and 2G, owing to the teams being disorganised through players having to attend Oringi camp. The request was acceded to. . The United Methodist Football Club was admitted into tho fourth grade competition. It was decided that a number of hoys reiiortcd as having played in grades for which they ara disqualified owing to their being over the specified ago fojf the fifth grade in tho seven-aside tournament, bo ordered to appear before next meeting of the union. It was pointed out that t7??ro wi>re about 20 players who had broken tho age rule last Saturday, that several of the boys were in fact 20 years of ago or thereabouts. St. James Club were granted permission to enter fourth and fifth grade teams without playing a team in the third grade. It was pointed out that the boys to compose thn fourth grade team were last year's fiffii grado boys, and that as they were not fit to play third class, they would have to seek places in other clubs if permission were not granted. The Athletic Park was granted for senior practice matches on Saturday between Wellington and Oriental, and between Melrose and St. James, and also for a match between Telegraph Gallery and Railway Learners' teams at 1.30 p.m. It was finally decided, on tho recom. mendation of the sub-committee appointed to deal with tho matter, that no matches be played next Saturday, and that play in all grades commence tho following Saturday. ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON F.A. CONTROL. . A meeting "of tho Management Committee of tho Wellington Football Association was held last evening, Mr. J. Patoii nresiding. It was decided to apply to the City Council for the'yuso of the Basin lleserve on April 10, for a representative match between a local team and a team from tho warship New Zealand. It was also , resolved to make application for permission to charge lid. per head on that date, the takings to be distributed as follow:— Half for the Citizens' Fund and half towards the entertainment of tho men on H.M.S. Ncnv Zealand. In tho event of tho proposed match taking placo the championship matches will commence on April 26. A number of letters were received from various clubs expressing approval of tho proposed insurance scheme, and thero were also a number of letters seeking uirthcr information on the matter. Messrs. Futon, Salmon, Duncan, and Williams were appointed a committco to go into the matter. TEAMS FOR THIS WINTER. 'I'lic Central Harriers hold an informal run from Thorndon' baths yesterday Iwelvo members' turned out. 'The mclc was m charge of Captain Scott, with E. Vang-o as pacemaker. After, leaving the baths a course was taken to Wadestown, ■thence to Johnsonville. and down the Kaiwarra Gorge to Kaiwarra—a distance in all of about eight miles. Several new members were out, and shaped well, considering the carlincss of the season. A rHn-iu from scratch was held over tho last 200 yds., and resulted in a win for E. 11. Smith, with M. Owing to the inclemency of th.3 weather during the past season, the J'roud Cup fixtures were greatly interfered with, aud the result was that players had very little chanco of getting themselves into proper .form. Tho detent of the Wellington representatives by Auckland was not therefore unexpected. A gratifying feature of tho visit to Auckland was that those who made it came to the assistance of the association financially, and thus enabled tho expenses of tho trip to bo met. "So long as tins true spirting spirit exists among members," said the report, "the game is bound to progress." Tho prospects for the coming season aro considered particularly bright. Tho association has secured two playing grounds on the Basin Reserve, and reports from the different clubs show>that thero is an increase of membership. The gnme has also been started in sever;:! ladies' colleges in the city, and it is probable other ladies' clubs will be formed in the city. The Auckland' representatives visit Wellington this year, and members are exhorted to do their I,est to get themselves lit; and mako a bold bid to recover the.
