EMPLOYERS' PROPOSALS.
'REDUCTION OF STAFFS. Sydney, April 0. At a meeting of employers iu Sydney a suggestion was made that 10 per cent, of the employees be dismissed to compensate for tho shrinkage in business caused by the railway strike. Tho matter was deferred for a fen- days, in tho hope that a settlement may bo como to, but it is reported that the suggestion will be adopted shortly if the struggle continues. A number of general warehouses liavo given their storemen a week's notice. Tho strike has played havoc with the wholesale trade. POLICE GRIEVANCES. Sydney, April 'J. Tho latest phase of the industrial unrest is a police grievance. Discontent has been prevalent in the metropolitan force for months over the stoppage of alternate Sundays' leave, chiefly owing to labour troubles. A scheme is afoot to form an association, with a view to concerted action to obtain redress of the grievances, shorter hours, and increased pay. 1 THE COAT, STRIKE. Sydney, April 0. There is nothing fresh to report in connection with the southern mining strike. The proprietors refuse to make any advance until tho men .resume. The deadlock therefore remains.
