o ■ On Tuesday evening tho Senior Cadets, under Lieutenant E. H. Fisher; were inspected by Colonel Chaytor. There was a good muster. During tho evening tlio ooloiiel decorated Lieutenant Fisher with a long-service medal for 1G years' servico, and congratulated him on tho excellent state of his corps. Henry Stone, recently a railway employee at Halcombe, was boforo tho Court on Tuesday morning to answer two charges of theft, namely, of five bags of superphosphates, valued at JCI 10s. t and of one sack of superphosphates, valued at 12s. at a later date. . Mr. Haggitt appeared for accused who pleaded guilty. Scr- ' geant Bowden, who piosccuted, stated - that accused had been employed as a por- i ter at Halcombe, and bad there taken I tho manures. Ho had (when inquiries' J were made) confessed to tho police, and J all but ss. worth of the manure had been i recovered. Mr. Haggitt said- that it was ; u case of "temptation making tho thief." He bad lost his position after having been five years in tho Service without a complaint against him. Ho asked the magistrate to punish, by a fine instead of by imprisonment. The magistrate fined accused J;t on each chargo and ordered him to pay tho costs of tlio prosecution (10s.) and to reimburse tho purchasers of tho manure. At the annual meeting of tho P-cilding ; Golf Club the president (Mr. D. Pryde), i who was in the chair, made mention of tho excellent stato of tho links. Tho election of officers resulted as follows:— t President, Mr. D. Prydo (reelected); vice- , president, Mr. W. E. L. Banks; captain, Mr. W. H. M'Lcan; Trustee, Mr. ( T. Power; secretary and treasurer, Mr. Lewis to act until another appointment is made; ' committee, Messrs. It. Hood, L. Gorton, " P. Mite. It. Harding, and J. S. Tingey. Mr. K. Hood oll'cred to provide a clnuii--3 pionship shield. It was decided to open tho links on Saturday.
