4 — MUSICIANS AND PICNICS. "An absurd application" was tho comment of Mr. Justice, Sim' upon a request Wado; at' 'tho''sittings of tho Arbitration Court at Auckland on Monday, wheii Mr. J. R. ; Morlcy, on beliulf of the Auckland Performing Musicians' Union, asked that a number of business firms ■ should bo attached as parties to tho union's award. Mr. Morley asked that tho Devonport Ferry Company, the Waterside Workers',. Union, St. Patrick's Day Committee, Auckland Timber Workers' Union, Onehunga Municipal Band, Carnation Daneing Assembly, Union Steaui Ship Company, Northern Steam Ship Company, Huddart-Parkcr Company, Third Auckland Regimental Band, Bradney and , Binns, Auckland Rugby Union, and a long list of local bodies and other < unions should bo added as parties to tho award. As these people held annual pic- '■ nics and other socia} functions, Mr. Morley said that they should bo made to pay tho union rates to tho musicians tlioj engaged. Mr. W. Scott (employers' representative on tho Court): It is tho most extraordinary application I havo over heard of before the Court. His Honour: It is absurd, and it is dismissed. • •
