UPPER HUTT COURT. \ At tho Upper Hutt Court yesterday, before Dr. M'Arthur, i S.M., Richard Smith, of Haywards, was charged, on tho information of Constable Mahoney, of Upper Hutt, that ho did, on the morninj| of Sunday last, assault George Nash, dairyman, of Wadestown; and} further, that lie did use certain language' within hearing of residents at the same time and place. Mr. P. W. Jackson, who appeared for accused, entered a pica of guilty on tho first charge, but asked for,-leniency oil the latin charge, as liis client did not use tho exact words: attri--1 buted to him in the information as set out. Tho Bench, after admonishing l accused, a youth of 19, imposed a nominal fine of 2s. and Ts. costs, with tho alternative of seven days' imprisonment, remarking finally, as all concerned refused to claim costs'of their appearance: "You havo kiud friends in court. I hope you will remember this occasion and never appear again upon such a serious charge." For the second charge, accused was mulcted £2 and 7s. costs, and the sama alternative, with a week in which to find the requisite fihes. Civil List—J. L. "Ward v. After examination of plaintiff, the case was adjourned until next court day, May 14. Tho headmasters of tho Petonc, Lower Hutt, Kniwarra, and ICoro-Koro Schools, have been advised i that the visit to 11.M.5. New • Zealand has been arranged for next Tuesdaj'. Special trains will bo run on that day. A special meeting of tho Western Hutt Electors' Association will bo held this evening at tho Alicetown Schoolroom for tho purpose of selecting candidates for.the Hutt Borough Council. At a meeting held at St. Augustino's Young Men's Room, Petone,.last evening, 'it was decided to form a debating society. Officers were elected as under:—President, Rev. G. B. Stephenson; secretary, Mr. W.' Andrews; committee, Messrs.' W. Foster, J. Mothes,. and the secretary. The" opening night was fixed for Monday, Hay 12. .
