Height, abovo 1909 moan Eea level, 418 feet. Chronomotor. Rating Notice.—At 1 p.m. to-day a galvanometer signal for rating chronometers will be sent from tho Observatory to tho Public Telegraph Ofßco and to tho Dominion Musoum. The needle will move at 1 p.m. oxaotly of Now ZeoJand standard mean timo, when a ohronomoter sot to Greenwich mean time should show 13 hours 30mln. Any difforenco will bo tho error of tho chronometer on Greenwich mean time. At 9 p.m. correot tlmo will also bo signalled from tho Observatory by means of oloctrio lights. A green light will bo switched on at about 8.45 p.m., a red one at about 8.55 p.m., and a whito olio at about 8.59 p.m., and all lights will bo switched off at 9 p.m. exactly of Now Zealand standard mean time. Tho preparatory switching on of the lights must ha considered ns only approximately correct, and must not bo used for rating chronometers.
