—.— CRICKET. 1 . PROTEST FROM CENTRAL CLUB. The Management Committee ol' this Wellington .Cricket Association met Inst night. Mr. M. F. Luckie presided. Tho following letter was received from the Town Clerk:—"The Reserves Committee desire me to ask that they shall be treated with more consideration with respect to matters of notification when dates granted are not required 'by your association. With respect to the A'cw South Wales match, 'proposed to be hold somo tii'no ago, no notification of cancellation was received from you."—lt was decided to reply that the omission .vas an oversight, and to state that such was regretted. The Central Club wrote,' protesting against the committee's decision to play out the final round of the senior competition. They, disagreed with the departure from the system of playing just semi-finals and final at this stage of the season—The letter .was "received," and it was explained that the reason for the change was-that at the ond of the first round it was thought that, given fine ■weather, they could probably play three matches, up to and including April 2. RIFLE SHOOTING. THE NGATIAWA RIFLE CLUB. .On Saturday last members of tho Ngatiawa Rifle Club.fired a competition for tho Elder Cup, the scores also counting tor the president's medal for handicap men only, Rifleman A. ■ THE WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION. A raecTing of the Wellington Hockey 1 Association was linld last evenin?. It was decided to send a letter to tha . Ivarori Borough Council complimenting them on tha excellent condition of the grounds which : the association had used lor practice on' Saturday last. It was, resolvc-d that "in the event of the New Zealand A'ssociatioii'allowing the Wellington Association'to send two delegates to the annual meeting, one representative should be sent from Wellington in addition to the local association's delegate in Christchurch. The opening of the ' Kai-ori Hockev 'grounds was fixed for April 2G. hi connection with the foregoing, a special committee, consisting of Mestrs. G. Davies, .1. G. Cusack, G. Tinnev, J. W. M'Donald, W. G. Morpeth, and' ,0. Strack, was appointed lo arrange details in connection. with the. seven-aside tournament and flat events. ' ;„"'lt was, decided lo endeavoitr to: makearrangements for a hockey match between local men and ia team from 11.M.5. Now Zealand during the, vessel's stay, in port. , The championship matches are to commence ;on Saturday, May 3. ' , The fourteenth annual report of the association, of which . a precis appears below, ivas authorised to bo printed and circulated to members. The report congratulates the-associa-tion'on the success of the lOlli season, and states that the valuable work achieved by the association in various directions during the season has marked it as the most important season yet experienced. There are-liow 14 clubs affiliated to the association, with a total membership of 553 players. The following new clubs were affiliated during the year: K.Y.M.1., St. Augustine's, Kllbirnia Anglican, and iMiramar. The Wednesday Association, which is affiliated as a subnssociatien, emprises six clubs with' r. fotal membership of 110 players. During the season there were 2G teams competing in the championship' contests, divided u,p as follow:—Seven senior teams, 14 junior, and five third-class. The senior championship wus again won by the Knrori Hockey Club, which is. to be congratulated upon retaining the position of the champion club. The Victoria College Club was the runnor 7 up. The junior championship was won by St. Augustine's Club. The Greg.gs Cliib won tjie thirdclass championship. ! The report further states that the Wellington Association ■won the New Zealand liockoy Association's Challenge Shield in the final match of the last,'sea-son. In view of tho absence of any rule settling the name to bo inscribed on tho. shield for each season, the Wellington Association, after carefully considering alternative methods of settling the premiership has circularised all associations affiliated to tile New Zealand Hockey Association, strongly m'ging that the association holding the shield at tho end of each season bo declared the chaiupion association for that season, anil that the name of that association only shall apnenr 6n the shield for that sea"son. The report recommends the incoming, committee to consider the advisability of sending a representative team on a tour south during the coming season. Tho matter of playing grounds was a-sain a very troublesome one for the committee,- but nn arrangement has been made with the Ivarori Borough Council for tho use of eight grounds, at Karori Park for a period of ton years' from the beginning of the 1913 season, And a similar arrangement with the Hutfc Park Committee for grounds on the Ilutt Park. The question of instituting a hockey competition among the public., schools'in Wellington has been considered by the committee, and it recommends the association to l'further the proposal. In conclusion.' tho report states that tho thanks of the association aro duo to tho Hon. A. L. Hordman, M.P., Dr. Faulke, and Messrs' M. Luckie and T). Miller for donations. and to Messrs. W. K. S. Hickson and'W. S. Wheeler, tho honorary auditors. The association's thanks are also due lo the. Wellington Hockey Referees' Association for assistance'during tho season.

Henry Frank Pitt was charged at tho Magistrate's Court to-day with having obtained, by means of false pretences, 17 bales of wool, valued at JJIOG, from AVilliam Clayton, of A'haura, on February U, by representing himself lo be the agent of Murray. Roberts, of Wellington, with which firm he alleged himself lo have account in credit for -£200. Accused was committed for trial.
