(From Oti BDeoial Corresnondent.) _ ' ■</— - UPPER HUTT TOWN BOARD. Thp fortnightly meeting of tie Upper Hutt Town Board was held on Monday evening. Present: Commissioners C. Webb (chairman), Benge, Bennington, Edwards, Kemp, yuinn, and Robertson. The newly-elected commissioners (Bengo and Edwards) were welcomed, by tho chairman taking their seats. After .routine business, it /was decided to increase the pay of the casual from 9s. to 10s. per diem. Beforo acceding to the request of threo house-owners for rebate of rates on account of unoccupied dwellings, it was decided to obtain a report upon thpi. conditions, whether habitable or not. Commissioner Webb's motions to ask that the Upper Hutt railway station bo connected with the local telephone bureau, and that tho streets, known as Martin and William Streets be designated Martin • Street throughout, were carried unanimously, but the one regarding ;( sum to bo set aside annually for tree-planting was defeated, several commissioners bein of opinion that the ratepayers' money is required for'moro urgent. works meanwhile. • " ■ Commissioner Kemp's motion that the formation of the footpath from Mungaroa Road to the western boundary of '■ Town District on the southern side of the main road bo proceeded with at once, was adopted unanimously. On the motion of Commissioner Bennington, it was decided to do tlio work by tender, Messrs. Seaton and Sladdon- to' give on estimate of the cost of construction, including concrete kerbing and channelling. It was decided to devote Monday evening next to the discussion of the matter of rates to bo levied under tho new system of rating upon unimproved values just introduced. PETONE TECHNICAL SCHOOL. A'mccting' of tho managers of tho Petono Technical School was held last evening, and was attended by the Rev. A. Thomson (chairman), and Messvs Castle, M'Ewan, Cunliil'c, and M'Keuzie. • Mr. J. H. Lynskev, director of the school, reported that in regard to the proposed additions, a sub-committee had waited upon the Wellington Education Board, and that body'had agreed to the recoinmenJ:i''ioiis. 1 ■ Tho-board forwarded a. subsequent letter in respect to this matter,, which pointed out that -representation should bo made to tho Department for accommodation, as follows:—Two class-rooms, an ad- , dition to the workshop of 30ft. by 40ft. and additions to lavatories.. A sketch plan by ill'. 11,I 1 , do J. Clere was approved, and on (ho motion of Mr. M'Kenzio it was resolved to forward tho plan, along -with the recommendation, to the Department. Mr. Duncan resigned his position on the hoard as treasurer owing to ill-health. ■The chairman said that it was with great regret tliat he moved the resolution to accept the .resignation. Mr. Duncan had dons noblo service for the school. It was resolved to forward a letter expressing appreciation of Mr. Duncan's services. Jt'was resolved to purchase books for the engineering and niachino classes. The '.[ue.st«m of locking up tho school at night and seeing to "lights out" (which was dealt with at previous meeting), was brought HI) by Mr. Castle. On the motion of Air. M'Konzie, it was decided to request the Education Board to inI crease the. caretaker's salary payable by tlicm lo ]i!s. Gd. liar week, and that a schedule i f tho caretaker's duties accompany the letter ,
