CLEAR BILLS OF LADING.
AN EXPLANATION. ; -Mr. : N. Galbraith, of the New Zealand Shipping Company, states- that an inferenoo might 1)9 drawn fro:in the report of ■tho meeting of tlie Chamber of Commerce on Monday evening that the shipping companies litid signed clean bills of lading for cheese which was in a heated Or damaged condition. The only , case, of : this''kind which had occurred , during tho present. seasoft in the experii euco of the Now Zealand Shipping Company was the caso of the'Riniutakii which' was. mentioned at'tho. meeting. - In that Instance the condition of ■ the cheese was noted on tho bill of lading, and it was signed for accordingly. In no case, Mr.. Galbraith stated in conclusion, had a ulean hill of lading been given for heated 3r : damaged cheese under a letter of indemnity. ■
