Ever-increasing excitement and anxiety regarding tho future prevails in Gibinltar, arising chiefly from tho speech of tho Governor, General Sir Archibald lluuter, . on January 31 last. On that occasion tlm Governor said that ho knew Gibraltar better than anybody else; that tho Chamber of Commcreo thought of nobody but ; themselves; that Gibraltar juries wcro > "notoriously unjust" (this passage was j an aside by the Governor, and did not appear in tho "Gazette"); that lie might ; soon have to establish a press censorship; that Gibraltarinns speak English worse than Egyptian donlccy-boys; and that "this town is liko tho Augean stables." nnd "I am determined to exact order and decency hero from everybody who comes ' • into tho fortress I command."
