Tho deceased Earl was Under-Secretary for the Home Department in 18GG-7, and Governor of New South Wales from 18G8 to 1872. His public benefactions included a gift of ,£lb,ooo to tho Dreadnought Fund and to build an Anglican Church at Singleton.
