THE CHIEF RABBI-ELECT.
MESSAGE TO JEWS IN BRITAIN. The "Jewish Chronicle" has received from Dr. Herlii, by cablegram tho following message to tho community of which he hiis become the'spiritual head-.— To Inrael in Great and Greater Britain. "For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say: I'cace bo within thee!" "Be of good courage, and let us pln.v the men for our people, and for tho cities of our God; and the Lord do tlmt which seemet|i Him good." Prayerfully 1 nnswer "Ilineiii!" ("Hero am I') to the summons extended to me under nho guidance of Providence by tho Electoral College of British Congregations. I am deeply conscious of the vast and sacred responsibility which the ofiico of Chief Itabbi imposes upon its ine.uiubent, find equally so tho immense difficulty of any attempt worthily to succeed Hermann Adler. From my heart of hearts I prav that the God of our fathers may sustain and guide me I With His help and the help • of my spiritual and lay co-workers, whose willing aid I now invoke in the communities throughout the Empire, my life and my strength shall be consecrated to the upholding and .maintaining of the sway of Tornli over our lives and the- sanctification of the Divine Name, both within and without tho ranks of Anglo-.Tewry. JOSEPH H. HflliTZ.
