The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's line Pakcliaarrived at Wellington l early this morning from London, via Las Poiiuas, Capo Town, Sydney. Auckland, aud Napier. On tho passage from London to Sydney tho vessel carried 1018 third-class paeeengere. A heavy--gale wa-3 a disturbing features in the run across the Southern Ocean, but otherwise the weather was good. Tho vessel will eommencD discharging this morning. 13ARENFELS FROM NEW YORK. The German steamer Barenfel» arrived at Wellington early this morning Jrom New York, via Oape Town, Australian ports, Auckland, and Napier. The llareiifela loft Nov; York on January 15, and met with fine "weather, with the exception of several w-esterly gales, while crossing the Southern Ocean. She resumed her voyage from Sydney on March 2D, and when about 500 miles out a breakdown occurred to the vessel's machinery, which necessitated the steamer being stopped for 15 hours while temporary repairs were effected. The vessel's machinery was repaired whilst she was at Auckland. After completion of her discharge here, the vessel will proceed to Lyttelton aud Dunedin. NEW STEAMER WAHINE. Cable advice received by the Dunedin ofllce of the Union Steam Ship Company Mr.ics that it ic expected to dispatch the Wahinc, the new Lyttclton-Wellington ferry turbine steamer, from London for New Zealand, on April 20. Tho Wahine is generally similar to the Maori, her principal dimensions being:—Length. 374 ft., breadth - 52ft., and depth 27ft. 6in. Sho has been built to Lloyd's ICQ A 1 class, and has accommodation for <00 first-class and 180 second-class passengers. Her propelling machinery consists of three sets of turbines, supplies with steam from watertube boilers. BENIOIA BUFFETED. The barque Benicia, which arrived off the Heads at Otugo on Thnreday afternoon and was towed up to tho wharf ou Friday, encountered a bad buffeting at one part of her trip. Great seas broke over her, oausing'her to labour heavily, and at ono stage tilling her well deck with water. At the height of the gale part of her cargo was shorn from tho decks and scattered over the sea. This is an eloquent testimony to the roughness and force of tho elemente, for on these vessels grea\> precautions are taken to secure tho deck timber from the caprices of weather and water. Tho pump.s were Tcsorted to at this time to get rid of a largo quantity of water that had found its way below. RECORD TIMBER CARGO. What is probably tho largest shipment of timber ever brought to New Zealand, states tho Dunedin "Star," will crrivo r>y the steamer Norfolk, which left Bunbury, West Australia, la6t week for Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton.
