SETTING "MOTOR TRAPS."
- — 6 A DOZEN NUMBERS TAKEN AT J1 I'TT. On, Saturday tho. Hutt Borough Council, 'Assisted by tho police, again established a "motor trap" along the main road, and at tho doss of the day another dozen motorists' numbers were token, with a viewto prosecution. Tho "trap" took tho distance of half a mile, oa the north sido of thje'V.l.C. Stores, and flag'signal* were used to take the time. The speed limit in this particular place is 20 miles an hour. One rider of n motor cycle did the run at tho rato of 30 miles an hour, and needless to say his number was quickly booked. Tho majority of tho motor traffic, however, travelled at between SO and 25 miles on. hour, whilst others (in tho know) travelled at a funeral pace, and sarcastically asked the "trap" officers if they were travelling too fast. The council intend to have several other "traps" in various parts of the borough, all equipped with a telephone, which is held on ba moro Accurate than tho flag system, and is better at night. i A humorous point in Saturday's "trapping" was that when the cors were on the road home from Trentham they could not Fte tho officers at tho beginning of the "trap," but at tho southern end a policeman was in full view, and motorists, thinking they were just entering the "trap," slowed down to a crawling pace, when perhaps the.y had driven through tho "trap" at an express rati).
