COMBINED CLUBS' OPENING RUN. Tho Wellington harrier season was officially opened on Saturday afternoon at Worser Bnv, when thorn was a largo attendance *f visitors and runnel's. Tlio club attendance was inado up as follows: —Brooklyn Harriers, 30 and 5 officials; Wellington Harrier?, 2G and 2 officials. The Mayor (Mr. D. M'Laron) was also in attendance. Afler opening speeches by Mi\ AV. Ballaniyne, president of tho Brooklyn Club, and Mr. W. 11. Bennett (who apologised for (ho unavoidable absence of Mr. J, 11. Pollock, president of the Wellington Club), tho sea_sm was declared open, and the combined packs set oil' at a brisk pace up the Worser Bay hill, hot on tho scent.of the hares, Brown and Harvey of the Brooklyn Club and Johnston and Eagle of tlio Wellington Club. Tho track was laid along the heights of tho Worser Bay hills on tlio Eastern side, the object being to keep' tho pack in view of tho public as long as possible. Tho pack descended on to tho road on tho western side of the Scatoun tunnel, and from there a circuit of the riilo rango was made, returning via tlio road and Scntoun tunnel to Wurscr Bay. At about two hundred yards from tho finishing post the pack was halted, preparatory to tho. run in. . As the. Brooklyn Club wero making a snecml event of (ho run in on this occasion, it was decided to dispatch each club's .pack separately. Wellington Harriers led olfj tho finish being as follows: -T. J. Kerr, 1: H. J. Pollock, 2; W. Donaldson, 3, lii the Brooklyn Club's run-ini 0. Murray was first. A. Cook second, and li, Ballnntyno third. After the run refreshments were pari a ken' of by the visiters and member#. 'Die Mayor called upon C. Murray to coino forward and leceive tho blue ribbon, which is awarded to the winner of iho run-in on the occasion of (ho opening of the Brooklyn Club's season, and which was pinned on by Mrs. Ballaniyne. J. Kerr, of I lie Wellington Club, was aba congratulated oil his splendid run-in. On tho motion of Mr. W. H, Bennett, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to tin' ladies for their untiring energies' in tlio dispensation of refreshments. P. A. Wilton, captain of the Brooklyn Club, and William Power, captain of the Wellington Club, also made a few remarks. During flu* afternoon Miss Cashuuin entertained Die company with an appropriate- snng. Next. Saturday Ihe Wellington Club's nil! will lake placc from Karon, and the Brooklyn flub will be at Kelburno.
