PROPOSED R OYAL CO M MISS lON, ACTION BY EMPLOYEES, ' (Rec. April 6, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, April 5. The railway strike has undergone little change. A meeting of the men yesterday diseased tlie new offer of the Government to appoint a Royal Commission to report on the whole situation. If'accepted, the work of the Commission will be hurried, so that a settlement could bo reached at the earliest possible moment. A mass . meeting has been called for to-' morrow, to further discuss the matter. A meeting of the executive of the Employers' Federation discussed itlie position as affecting trade. It was resolved that in view of the loss caused to traders and inconvenience to,the public through the dislocation of the carrying branch of the railways, a general meetiug of .the federation be' called for tomorrow, to urge on the Government the necessity for immediately restoring the service. ' ' A feature of this and recent strikes has been the orderliness and good behaviour of the men, Though special police have been detailed to the strike areas,, their duties have been purely nominal. GUARDS AND PARCEL OFFICE MEN. , (Eec.-April 7, 0.30 a.m.) Sydney, April 6. An. Easterly gale with soaking rain has been blowing for twenty-four hours, and still continues. Serious damage to the goods left uncovered through the railway strike, is likely. The shunters at tho Eveleigh, A lei-' andria, and Clyde yards havo joined, the strike, . The guards of goods trains threaten to come out unless nine mon who wero suspended for refusing to do shunters' work are reinstated. : It is rumoured the parcels office employees will be out to-morrow.' < THE BROKEN HILL TROUBLE. / /FEELING THE NIP.. . Sydney, April 5. The nip of the Barrier' striko is beginning to be seriously felt. Fodder is running short. , Two sections of the Amalgamated Zinc Works have been closed, the British mine has ceased tho breaking and hauling of ore, and tho Junction mine, closes to-day, due to a shortage of trucks to carry ore. The Northern miners are taking a ballot to ascertain if tho'men aro favourable to submitting their troubles to the Wages Board. Mr. Carmichael's proposal to appoint a special Court to deal : with the situation is not favourably regarded.
