THE MODERATOR-ELECT. . Twenty-four out of tlie thirty-sis presbyteries of tho Church have nominated, the R-ev. William John Macauley,' 8.A., of Portadown, as the Moderator of the Ti-ish 0"noril Assembly, for /tho coming year. Mr. Macauley was a distinguished student of Queen's and, Assembly s Colleges, Belfast. Ho was licensed by tho Presbytery of Rathfrilnhd ■on May 5, 1874, and in the following 1 October was ordained in Stranorlar as successor to the Rev. H. C. Graham, emeritus professor of philosophy, M'Crea Mageo College. In a few years he was called to his present charge—First Portadown. Some seventeen years ago he was appointed convenor of the Mission in Aid of Weak . Congregations. These congregations abound in almost every Presbytery in Ulster, and Mr. Macauley's wise and prudent administration of this, fund, the kindly, brotherly, and considerate way in which he dealt with all applications for aid from _ the mission, and his zealous and untiring efforts to raise tho standard of ministerial support have made liinv strong personal; friends throughout the Church. Tho phenomenally large number of 'Presbyteries that has nominated him is a striking tribute of his brethren' to the service ho has rendered to ithe Churcli at large.
