W.C.T.U. AND BIBLE IN SCHOOLS
CONVENTION RESOLUTION DISSENTED FROM. (B.y Telegraph.—Press Association.) Wanga'nui, April 4. At the meeting o,f the Wanganui branch of tho Women's Christian Temperanco Union, tho resolution, passed by tiio convention oi the union at Nelson against the New South Wales system of Bible in schools was discussed. Tho Waugamii W.C.T.U. strongly dissented from the action of tho .delegates and passed a practically unanimous resolution declining to endorse tho position taken up by the convention,""and exposing approval of the platform of tho Bible-in-Schools Loa'gfte. ' At the W.C.T.U. Convention held at Nelson recently tho following resolutions "were carried:— "That this convention, believing fully in tho chiklrcn of Now' Zealand receiving religious instruction, urge's that steps bo taken to incorporate tho Nelson system with, tlio Editcalkm Act, giving tho ministers of religion and their certified appointees the right to use the schools for ■the purpose of giving Biblical instruction; the children whoso parents objcct to be exempted from, attending Biblo lessons. The' convention approves of this system because the. important, work of giving religious instruction would be entrusted to' those best qualified for the task, and would not involve any risk of the introduction of denomiimtionalisin, .r.or would tho liberty of tho conscience of anyone, either parent or teacher, be ' interfered witii." ■ "That this convention strong!v disapproves of the platform of tho Bible-in-Schools League/' "
