;' . 4 ; — INCIDENTS OF CAMP LIFE. THE ROSENEATH SCOUTS. (By Scoutmaster Myers.) Although' the doings, of tho Koseneath Sco'ilts havo'riot been recorded for some considerable time,.'still,this troop is in a very flourishing condition, having a'senior and two junior patrols. The troop was formed nearly four j;ears ago, and ckims to be tho oldest existing'troop in'thb Wellington district. Their camp ati Muritai for. a few weeks in the Christmas holidays did much to prepare the boys foi their exsimiriatioais, ftud they aro no.w; \vaiting for the inspector to come' and pass tlietn. A few weeks agi, thv troop,, 'with St. Peter's, Keiburne, and Newtown, formed th*v guard'of honour -to his Excellency Lord Liverpool, in connection with tho ijnfurling of the Scottish Royal Standard at the lloseneath School.. At' 1 the' Lyall Bay gala the troop was at the disposal of the committee, and acquitted, themselves very well. At Easter, time thfc troop wiis at Newtown Pat-k, 'assisting at tho Citizens' .Carnival. Hera the/ were attached to.tha Sports Committee, and. did good work in going errands, guarding tents, policing the grounds, and ill fact doing whatever..work-there, was nn opening for theni to do. An Essential Art. The troop is pleased to report that one of its seniors, 'Patrol-leader W. Meyer, was. fortunate enough to be able to assist in"saving tho life of 'a young man at Lyall Bay on Good Friday. Thw youth got into difficulties, and Meyer, with two other members'of the Lyall Bay Surf Club, sivam out and rescued him. This reflects jgreat credit on the' troop, as when tho'lad joined''the troop a few years ago, he was unable'to swim. This is not the first occasion that the swimming qualities of this'troop havo proved useful, as a few months ago a boy named ■ S'. Ward, who was an ex-Eoseneath Scout, fived a child from drowning in the Boat Harbour. lie .also was taught to swim when in the Scouts. Vacancies. As there are now a few vacancies in the troop for boys between tho aires of 10 and 18 years, the Scoutmaster, W. A.' Smith, would bo glad to receive applications addressed. 'to 'him at" Mqida Yale' Bond, Boseneatli,- or lie jwoiild bp pleased to see mtending*'members at Uio' clul>r'o'om on Thursday evenings at 7 o'clock. ' Tho Scouts desire to publicly thank Mr. .Tack, who lias so 'klhdly ' lent tliehi their tapacious club-room'for so long a time. St. Peter's Troop. The St. Peter's troop, which camped at Newtown Park during the Easter Carnival, . did splendid work during the day and night. At "8 a.m. tho troop started its work; boys' were, placed'on tho ground to tidy up' and help the side-show-keepers to prepare for the public. This troop was attached to. the Ground and Refreshment Committee'.' During the ' time the'boys acted as waiters', 'waiting' on the" tables in the tea tent, which caused much laughing amongst.tlio' ladies. Nevertheless, the boys did very good work. One evening during the 'damp the Tvelburne and Newto\vn troops were the visitors of St. Peter's troop to tea. The troops spent a couple of' pleasant hours together, sitting around" a camp-fire singing. ' On Sunday tho boys of this' tfoop gave a. cooking display; which caused tho ladies much amusement. Lending Valuable Aid. >, On. Easter Monday a rather serious fire broke out at the park, and St. Peter's and Newtown .Scouts did excellent work till the firemen arrived on the scene. During the fire, Erskine, of St. Peter's troop; and Hart, of Newtown, were hurt while rescuing a little child from tho fire. If it were not for these tivo brave boys, the little child might have been burnt. ' ' phurch" Parade.. On Easter Snnday morning, St. Peter's, Kelburii'e, Nowto\vai, Roscneatli, and tho Orphariago troops, at tho same time not forgetting the; Island Bay Drum and Fife ;Bnnd, attended church parade. The band played- very good music, while 'on the inarch to' Newtown Park; tho service was conducted by the Chaplain, Mr. Shirer. 11l the course of - his Temarks, Mc, Shirer impressed upon: the .boys'to be'brave, to be cautious, to obey orders; talcing as an example Qitfeori i\jid his 3.oft, men,, Forming a Band. ; St. Peter's, troop is also endeavouring form a band,' alid Scoutmaster .
