Fallieres. The ceremony at _tho Elysse was brief but interesting. When JI." Pomcnre -arrived he was met at tho door of the firaiul-_ante-chambsr by M. Fallieres and tho.-Ministers, and was conducted to the Salon des Ambassadeurs. Here M. Fallieres, in a short speech, transferred the presidential power to his fajcessov.Having spokrai of 31. Poincare's brilliant career, ho expressed his belief that his activities would still bo devoted to the furtherance of the policy of peace,' liberty, and progress, to which tlio nation was strongly attached. J[. I'oincnre replied, and was now President of the French Republic. The simple ceremony ' over, the exPresident retired, and 31. Poincnro was invested with tne Grand Mastership ofthe Legion of Honour, and received the grand collar of the order. Carriages-wero then re-entered, and the President and ex-President drove by way of tho Champs Fly.we and the Rue de ■Rivoli to the Hotel de Ville, where they wero the guests at a reception of the City of Paris. Also there were. present ex-President Loubot and Itlesdames Poincnro, Fal'ieros, and Loubet. This is (lie first time in the history of the Republic that three Presidents have been present oil such an occasion. Before they left at. the end of tho reception the three Presidents were presented with gold medals commemorative of the occasion, which had been specially struck by the municipality. JL Poineare then announced that he would give 20,00(1 francs to the city for distribution among the poor.
