'' At the monthly sitting of the Lower Hutt Court yesterday, Dr. M'Arthur, vS.IL, and Mr. J. Cudby, J.P., were oil the Bench. An elderly man named Louis Dedderseu was charged with being drunk, and also with committing an indecent act. Accused, who pleaded not guilty, was con T victcd and discharged on the first count, whilst for the second offence a fine of 42, ".with 15s. ccsls, was imposed, in default seven days' imprisonment.For allowing cattle to wander, William Bottomley was fined 55., with costs 75.; William Strand, 10s., .costs 75.; Carl 1 Skinner 205., costs 7s. Annie Dexton was ordered to pay costs 7s. William Jones, on two charges of failing to send his child to school, was fined Is., with costs 7s„ for each offence. William Richard Rowland, a Territorial, for absenting himself from parado without leave, was fined .£2, with costs 75., in default seven days' imprisonment. The Inspector or Factories proceeded against tho Ilutt; Borough Council for employing m-3n who were lint carpenters to do work which was alleged to be tho work of a carpenter. Mr. Blair appeared for tho defendant. .For the prosecution it was argued that the work in question was constructing boxes for concrete, at the Hutt reservoir. Mr. Blair contended that the work consisted,of nailing some boards together, and if that was a breach of the Act, then other work in the borough was equally against the Act. Judgment was deferred until April 8, in Wellington. CIVIL BUSINESS. • Judgment was given for plaintiffs by default in the following cases;—M'Menaliiin Bros. v. W. O'Brien, 95., costs ss. ; George Bradley v. Edward Young, ,£l2, (jrists 75.; aamo v. Thomas Baker, ss. 3d., costs (is. In tile defended cases, judgment was. given for plaintiffs as follow Fleming Ross v. D. A. Alexander, t £'J 165., costs 155.; same v. George Cudby, Ills., costs ss. In the casa Thomas Sliiui v. Thomas G. Austin, claim £2 9s. 5d., judgment was givelii for defendant; no costs were allowed. In a judgment summons case, W. H. Palmer was ordered to pay 7s. Od. to Oeorge Bradley, on or before April IC. in default, seven days' imprisonment. William N. Ward, on a judgment summons, was ordered to pay the sum of 18s.
