In continuing his evidence beforothe Alarconi Contract ,Committee, Mr. LloydGeorge, Chancellor . of. the Exchequer, stdfal that tho shares which ho had purchased iu the American Marconi Company lie bought as an investment. Not having much''cash he avoided speculations. , ' In reply to a question why if lie had bought the shares as an investment ,ho Sold tho bulk of them within three days of the purchase, Mr." .Lloyd-George said he had acted on his rioters' advice, and he. did not think the transaction any less an investment because (he had done Mr. Lloyd-George dramatically chal lenge'd.nny member of the House of Comiinoris to formulate charges against him: it was cowardly aiid menu to skulk behind and circulate sUuulers to jourunlists. 110 ,had always proceeded on the principal of not speculating He regarded an investment as something permanent for the sake of dividends, while speculation was buying in,order to sell. Having d< family, he had never done that. On being cross-examined, he admitted that ho had sold .857 out of his first thousand -jAmerican/Marconi 'shares within threo'days at a profit of =£7-19. He had only paid tho brokers a third of tho purchase money, and the brokers had advanced the rest. ' They still held tho shares as.security. ' v .. .
