The barometer lias a falling tendehcy, especially in the 'south. Moderate to strong easterly winds are probablo in tho north and westerly winds over tho South Island. Fine weather has prevailed, except in tile southernmost districts, where cloudy and misty • weather with drizzling rain has ' been reported to-day. Ten pairs of Mongolian pheasants were brought from London, by tho Ojiawa for the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, and tho birds were so carefully tended by'the officers of thi> steamer that tho Shipment reached Auckland without tho loss of a single bird, an 'unusually gratifying experience in acclimatisation importations. The Auckland Society has already proved Ills success of crossing tho so-called Mongolian pheasaiit with tho common Chinese variety, and tho new birds are to be established at the society's fnrm at Okoloiro fov. cross-brdeding' purposes.
