Lost in Matrimony. Uur Auckland corespondent writes that in the course of an interview yesterday morning, tho Hon. 11. D. Bell, Minister in Charge' of tho Immigration i Departmont, referred briefly to tho iuilux of girls to Now Zealand from Iho Homeland through the Immigration Department. In referring U> the class of girls brought out, ,which .was the subject of some interesting evidence before the Imperial Trade Commission, and in reply to comments (o which tho Minister himself made a statement at (ho time, Mr. Hell remarked, that a good deal of complaint heard ill the matter ef girls disappearing after being engaged for domestic service found an ' answer in the simple- solution of matrimony. "If," said the Minister, "we' bring out a girl of such good character, looks, and physique as lo attract tlie young men of the Dominion in search, of wives, it may bo unfortunate- for prospective employers, but it is probably just us good for the Dominion as if they went into domestic servico. At all events, it is a good advertisement for the methods of selection adopteil by the immigration Department. "You know," he added Jiuniorously, "there is no linv to prohibit tho girls who come out from finding husbands, and all that we- cfln really do is to try and induce a sullieieiit number to New Zealand ti leave sonic over lo supply the demand for nirls lo perform domestic duties ill oilier people's homw. Arrange-
luenls are now being made for a much larger supply of these girls, so that thero may be some overplus, but so long as the Government induces this class of girl to come to the country so long will tlio young men of the country marry them," A Farewell Gathering. , Thcro'was a large gathering of members of tho New Plymouth Golf Club on Saturday to bid. farewell to Sir. and Mrs. A. 11.
