RIFLE SHOOTING.

THE FIELD SHIELD MATCH. / dn Saturday last all the rifle clubs in tho Otaki .electorate fired for tho Field Shield oa the Hokowliitu range, Palmerston North. The shield was presented about five years ago by Mr. W. H. Field to oncourage and promote competition among riflemen in the Otaki electorate; Last year the shield was won by the Hautere Riflo Club, with a scorc of 927. This year it was won by tyie Ngatiawa Club with a score of 856. ' Tho weather conditions wcro far from Rood, steady rain falling throughout tho day, so the targets appeared as dim ghosts in the distance and the competitors,' by the end of the shoot, wore all practically drenched to the skin. Captain C. G. Powlesi, of Palmerston North, acted as rango officer and was congratulated by all f»r the manner in which he carried out his duties. Scores are as follow:— r < NGATIAWA RIFLE CLO'B. •

KAIiORI NO. 2 DEFEAT PETONE NO. 2. , ' In the annual match, Petono Rifle Club v. Karon Rifle Club, Petorie scored a welldeserved win in the No. 1 teams, as already published. In the No. 2 match, Karon won after a keen struggle by twelve points! and A.vson (Petone) was top swrer, with the good total of 91. Edlin (Petone) shot brilliantly at 300 yards,, putting on the possible. The matches were most enjoyable, Petone treating the ftarori men very well.
