CARNIVAL CONCERT.

The "fifth effort" in connection with (lie ■ Citizens' Easter Carnival took the form of a concert held in the Town Hall on Saturday, evening. It was a pity, but tlie people did not respond to this as they have done to the various other carnival attractions. Consequently the big iiall was only partly filled and presented a somewhat forlorn look. The whole of the performers gave their services gratis, and togethci contributed a pleasing programme. Mr. Hamilton Hodges was the leading contributor and was enthusiastically received. He was in excellent voice and sang Gounod's "The Wandering Jew'' in his best style. Mi?s I,'hoebe Parsons, AJf-.C.Jf., who sang "llerco Diletle" /Verdi), was twice encored. One of the best items, hud a popular one too, was the singing of the Orpheus party's quartet. Their first soup. "Drink to .Me Only With Thine Eyes," showed that (hey were talented and well trained for a quartet. As an eueoi'c they sing the popular song about the boy, the teacher, and the tin tack. The Ifighland (ling and reel, by Misses F. Shaw, L. Eeid, l'na Rogers, and 13. H/Lellai.i, were danced with precision. Hiss M'Lellan was especially note-' worthy for her gracefulness. The only duet 011 the programme—"Snowdrop" (I.ehmanu)—was a contribution from Miss Mitriel_ Bennett an<l Mr. R. S. Alhvright. Mr. AV. Caton's humorous selections were much liked. It is easier for an amateur with' even a moderate voice to sing a serious song than a comic one, but Mr. Caton did very well. Hiss Eileen Driscoll and Mrs. Sogers both contributed solos, the former sang "A Request," and the latter "Dear Homeland." The Post and Telegraph . Department choir provided suitable items for the opening and concluding items. They were conducted by Mr. I'. A". "Waters. Mr. E. Hill (lontfr solo) and Mr. Frank Andrews /step dance) also deserved to be mentioned. Mrs. .10. 11. Queree and Mr. D. A. Kenny as the accompanists left nothing to be desired.
