OTAKI NOTES.
A fire broke out in Mr. Harold Cockrell's storeroom on Friday evening, and before it was discovered had secured a good hold. The flames were subdued aftci somo damage had been done. , Mr. L. Fisher, who has been caretaker of the local State school for some time, has tendered his resignation on account of failing health. The Rev. S. G. Compton and Mrs. Compton, who left on Friday en route to England, * were presented by residents of Levin with a well-filled purse of sovereigns. Mr. Compton's successor, will probably bo the Rev. H. T. Stoalev, of llio Hikurangi College. Clareville. Almost annually a large stag makes his appearance in this district, and a day or two agO was seen near the pipe bridge, Ohu. It showed signs of having been hunted. Owing to theeprworrying several owners of properties are giving notice that all dogs found in various localities will be destroyed.'
