PASTORAL LEASES.
TENUIS ETO BE AMENDED. ' • A large area of land hitherto let und«r pastoral leases which have recently fallen in is at present boing held back, under instructions from the Hon. W. Fi MasBey, in. his capacity as Minister for Lands. Mr. Massey informed a reporter on Saturday that he intended to apply to Parliament.next session' for legislation providing a better temiro for tup lands in (juestion. Ho intends also to provide for tho subdivision of the pastoral leases where it is possible. "I had either to do that," Mr. Massey remarked, "or lot the lrnid be tied up for another twenty-one years." Tho projected legislation, lie. added, would be in tho direction of encouraging settlers to improve their' lands. v
