CITIZENS' CARNIVAL—AND, THANKS. There was one . interval during tho , meeting of. tho Exccut'ivo Comuiitteo <>t the. Citizens' Carnival, held yesterday afternoon; where a- simmer nearly.doyeloptd into a Soil-over. .It was proposed by Mr. C. E. Smith that, in thanking: all who assisted, to' make the carnival a success, 110 names should be' mentioned, as some ■were bemnd £o, , omitted. This was s supported by Mr. R. Fletcher and others. Air. A. Paupo said that as tho question of -thanks'had'been raiyjd, he would liko to'tako objection to. tho' manner in winch sorno* people .had been 'thanked, and- in particular to the kudos \Vhich had been given a coupls of.councillors, whom he personally had not tsecri on the ground during' the carnival. '-Hie two councillors mentioned Had, as far as he was aworo, don© nothing .• ■in any ox i'orni. ' .7 ' « "I- think/' said ,Hr., that if tho- carnival is going to ; be continued successfully in the future,, it should bo a Citizens' Carnival pure Land simple, and Councillor. So-and-So should be. left out of it." The carnival should be controlled by tho citizens for. tho citizens. (Applause.) Minnie wo are all ri greed that :it should bo, a, citizens affair, and now tho matter had been aired ho hoped it will bo dropped! l , and' that all will pull together. ; , t A i It was subsequently moved by tho Mayor:—"That the bc&i thanks ..of tho Executive Committee of the Citizens Carnival be tendered to all who gave their '.services gratuitously! in. making tlio carnival a success, and to ; tho many inter-. ■ ested outside tho .carnival:/ Committees, who contributed, good:? or", cash .dona: tions." . : ! • ' , Mr." : Fletcher-seconded the _ motion, which was carried by approbation.
