RUGBY FOOTBALL. VICTORIA COLLEGE CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of tho Victoria College Football Club was held in tho LoHego Gymnasium last evening, Professor S. A. Hunter presiding over a good attendance of members. Tho annual report of the committee stated that the past season, though not a record one, might be classed as epjoy'i J 4 ?* -^ year's, senior team was probably the youngest that had represented victoria College. They were to bo congratulated cn their showing, and it was hoped that this ye<ir, with tho help of twelve.months' growth, ami a corresponding increase in muscle, they would give a better account of themselves. The committee, on behalf of the members of tho club, congratulated AV. T. Longhurst on his being re-selected as a member of the third grade representative team.: P. J, Ryan was selected to make the trip with the Wellington representatives to Taranalcd, but was umiblc to go. Finally, the committee expressed a hope that tho members.of the club would-enter on. the new season with energy and enthusiasm, and that they would try to raise tlio standard of college football. Their spirit of patriotism should not alio* them to take the field iu matches in any grade in an untrained condition. It was to the question of training that members could with the best advantage to themselves and their college give most attention during the ensuing year. I'he balance-sheet Showed a substantial sum to credit.
Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. It was igreed, on the motion of Mr. Quilliam, that the Club Committee should meet at least once a fortnight during the college session. On tho motion of the same member, itwas agreed that a committeeman failing, without leave of absence, to attend two consecutive meetings of the committee, should lose his place thereon, but should bo eligible for re-election. It was agreed that the captain and de-puty-captain of tho seniors should pick the first fifteen; that after the selection of tho first fifteen the captain and deputycaptain pf the juniors should pick the second fifteen, and so on. Mr. Davev proposed a motion to the effect that any undergraduate or graduate of Victoria College who played for two years consecutively for an' outside team should bo ineligible to play in Victoria College football. Tho motion was vigorously opposed on the groiind that if a man wanted to repent even after two years, his repentance, should bo welcomed. After, a brief discussion the ,-motion was negatived by 'a largo majority. Officers were electerj as follow for the ensuing year Patron, Prof/ssor Pickmi; president, Professor T. A. NEW. SOUTH WALES TOUR, Tho. Sydney, University Football Club' has issued an invitation to 'tlio Now Zealand University to tend a representative team to Sydney "this year. The intercollegiate delegates. who wero . assembled in Wellington during tho Easter holidays decided to accept tho, invitation. Says the Rugby Union's official note:— ! With the opening of the championship matches close at hand, considerable interest is being ehowu in the matches between Potone and Melrose, and Poneke and. Oriental at tho Park this afternoon'. Tho matches are being promoted with a view to obtaining financial 'assistance to-
wards tho gymnasium funds of the clubs concerned, and iu past years have produced keen, interesting contests. The form shown this afternoon will provide some indication df tho strength of the teams when they take the field *in cup matches, which arc duo to 6tart on April 12. The fixture for next Saturday, April 5, is the annual seven-a-side tournaments, promoted in aid of the injured players' fund.

Fourteen Australian schools competed in tho Sohools of Umpire 'shooting competition. The highest Australian score was that of Wesley College, Melbourne, which gained 467 points. YACHTING. The newspapers revert to the subject of the New York Yacht Club's refusal of Sir Thomas Lipton's challenge, and point out that tho Deed of Gift authorises a variation of tho conditions. The papers surmise that possibly the New York Yacht Club desires a challenge from the Yacht Squadron instead of from Sir Thomas Lipton.
HARRIERS. ' THE WELLINGTON CLUB. At the annual meeting of members of tho Wellington Harriers' Club last night, Mr. W. B. Bennett presided, and there was a good attendance. CRICKET. HIGH SCHOOLS' MATCH. . (By Tclegraph.-Prcfis Association.) ■ ' ' ' Napier, March 28. Tho. annual cricket match between tho Napier and Palmerston High Schools was played .-hero yesterday. The bowling of both sides was on the wicket, ancf the batsmen played cautiously throughout. In the final struggle Napier were set tho task of making 98 runs, which thov managed tp do with the loss of niiie wickets. Palmerston, in their first innings, made 72 (Kerr 22), and, in their pecond innings, 76 (C. Bennett 26, Low 18,-G. Bennett, not out, 10). Napier, in their first innings, made 51' (Finillay 11,. Franklin 14). In their second innings, they put on 99 for nine wickets (Dean 23, Amyes 13, Findlay 17, O'Donovan 15).
