DUNEDIN, March 27. The Tongaiiro arrived at Dunedin thu morning' with 300 passengers in the third class, including 104 children. There are a number of domestic servants and a few farm labourers. AORANGI FOE 'FRISCO. The. Aorangi arrived at Wellington from Sydney direct at 4.15 a.m. yesterday, and subscauently berthed at the Glasgow Wharf. Sydney was cleared at 3 p.m. last Saturday, and exceptionally fine weather was experienced until Tuesday, wlion a moierato to strong "southerly" set in, which caused a high 6ea, These conditions prevailed until the Aorangi made port. Departure will be taken, for Sail Francisco at 5 p.m. to-day.
TAHITI FROM SAN FKAXCIBCO. At 2.5 p.m. yesterday the Union liner Tahiti arrived in tho stream at Wellington from San Francisco, via, Papeete and Karatonga. Pratinue having been granted by the Port Health Officer, the vessel berthed at the Queen'B Wharf No'. 6 shortly after 3 p.m. Leaving Fan Francisco on March 5, the Tahiti arrived at Papeete at 4 p.m. on JluTch 16, sailing the next day for Harytonga, where she arrived .on March 19. Departure. was taken for Wellington at 12.30 p.m. on March 20. arrival being made ns stated above. ' In addition to 260 tone of copra for transhipment to London, the Tahiti landed the following cargo at Wellingtonso cases eggs, 600 cases canned fieh, 1836 cases canned fruits, 7500 cafes dry fruits, 1 motorcar, 106 packages oil. ICQ sacks grace seed, 53 cases periodicals, 25 packages asparagus, and a, quantity of Island fruit and sundries. • The Tahiti leavos Wellington for Sydney this evening.
ROTORTTA DUE MONDAY. Continuing her journey from London, the New Zealand Ship Ding Company's Rotorua-' left Hobart for Wellington at 6. a.m. yesterday. She is duo hero on Monday morning. BARENFELS AT AUCKLAND. Telegraphio advice has been received from Auckland stating that tho U.S. and A. Line's .Chartered steamer Barenfels arrived there from New York, via Australian ports, at 6.45 a.m. yesterday. The vessel is expected to clear the northern port for Napier and 'Wellington on Sunday. She is due here about _ Wednesday of next week. Before proceeding to Nelson and southern ports, the Barenfels lands 1156 tons of cargo here. PAKEHA'S MOVEMENTS. Present arrangements are that the ShawSavill steamer Pakeha will leave Auckland in continuation of her journey from Liverpool to Napier and Wellington on .Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. She is due at this port about the end of the week. V MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. Bray, third-officer of the Baka.noa has joined the Navua in a similar capa city, relieving Mr. Cook, who has come ashore for orders. Mr. J. G. Bannatyne has rejoined the Koonya. as chief engineer. Mr. W. E. Daniel, third, engineer of the Koonya, signed off that vessel at Wellington yesterday. Mr. A. C. lnnea has joined the. Wairuna as second engineer, vice Mr. E. J. .Looney, who has come ashore for oTdors. Mr. G. Gamble, chief officer of the Tahiti, has been granted holiday leave, and eigne off that vessel at Wellington to-day.
The latest purchase by the Union Steam Ship Company .is a fine type of modern cargo-carrier. She was t-lie Giffard, but now will be known in the Red Funnel fleet as the Waitomo. She was built in 1911 at Howdon-on-Tyne by the Northumberland Steamship Building Company, and was ong.ined by Richard's, Westgarth, and Company. The Giffard was owned by A. Weir and Company. Her gross tonnage is 4214, and hor net register' is 2719 tons. She is 380 ft. in length, 49ft. In beam, and 26.4 ft,. in depth. Her engines develop 372 ■n.h.p. The New Zealand Shipping Company's cargo-oarrior Waimate will not arrive at Wellington .from Picton until, to-day. She is to take her departure from, this port for London on Sunday morning. • An arrival at Dunedin from London, via. way ports, at 7.10 a.m. yesterday was tho New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Tongor.iro. The vessel landed several hundred immigrants at the southern port. The F. and S. Line's steamcT Buteshire, which is under charter io t.lie New Zealand Shipping Company, cleared Lyttelton for Avonmoutli, via Monte "Video and La® Falmas, at 7.10 a.m. yesterday. Messrs. Dalgety and Co. advise that the auxiliary scow Echo left Karamea, for Wellington at noon yesterday. It is probable that the vessel will return to Karamoa to load again for- Wellington. Ruahine. R.M.S., is duo at Wellington from Timaru on Sunday morning. The Union Company's Flora is due at Wellington. from southern ports on Sunday. Deoarture will be taken for New Plymouth'and West Coast'ports on Monday at 5 p.m. The Union collier Kitlawa . arrived at Wanganui from Newcastle, via New Plymouth, at 1.30 p.m. yesterday. The Haupiri left Wellington last night, for Picton from which port a full load of chaff will be taken to Onehunga. Shortage of railway trucks has been responsible for delaying the departure of the Koonya and Koniatp, from Wellington. It is expected that they will tret, away for West Coast ports to-day, MapoUrika. s.s., arrived at. Greymouth from Wellington, via way ports, at. 11 a.m. yesterday.
