SHEARERS' CONFERENCE.

A conference of the New Zealand •Shearers' and Woolshcd Employees' Association of Workers was opened in Wellington on Tuesday morning. Tho following delegates wero present:—Wellington, Messrs. A. M'Leod, R. M'Rae, and C. Grayndler; Gisborno, Mr. J. >K. Morgan; Marlborough, Mr. W. M'Lennan; Canterbury, Messrs. W. Boone, ,C. R. Johnsot'n, ana C. J. ICcrr; Otago. Messrs, J. 'L'ownscnd and J. Mco; president, Mr. A. J. King; and general secretary, Mr. M. Laracy. Miss E. A. Rout was engaged as reporter. It was resolved that votes of condoleneo be sent to the relatives and friends of tho late Mr. T. White, general secretary of tho A.W.U., and tho lato Messrs. Abbott, Rliind, and J. Allinson; a vote of sympathy was passed to tho relatives of Mr. 11. Hawkins on his illness. A Press Committee was set up to pass reports for publication. Tho report of tho general secretary aud tlie balanco<4ieet wero read and adopted. Mr. A. J. King (tho retiring president) was elected vice-president for (no ensuing year. Mr. J. Cooper was installed as new president, and very hearty votes of thanks and appreciation were carried by acclamation to tho retiring president. Tho following telegram was sent to Mr. F. H. Labatt, secretary of tho New Zealand SVepowners' Federation, Christchurch (signed by tho president and the general secretary) :—"Will your federation agree to confer with Shearers' Association's representatives in reference to general conditions aud rates of pay for shearing for a further term?" Mr. Purvis was welcomed as a visitor to tho conferencfl. An Order raper Committee was set up, ami approved of tile classification of remits made by tho reporter, it' was agreed that the next conference should be held in tho first week in May, 1914. Notice of motion was given to move the setting up of a deputation to wait upon tho Minister for Labour, a-sking for an amendment,of tho I.C. and A. Act, to allow of one union', being registered covering all those work- I intf m v tne shearing sheds of tho Dominion. '
