CITIZENS' EASTER CARNIVAL.
Ths guessing competitions, at. the. Carnival, which were under the charge of Mr. H- Levy, were most successful, and from this source the sum of ,£l7 lis. was raised. The following is the result:— Seeds in water melon (correct number 867).—The winner was Mr. Bi Keesing, Mulgrave Street, who guessed 805. The lowest guess was 27 and the highest 8888. Three sacks of- coal (correct weight, 279.|lb.).—This wasithe most popular competition, and the following guessed 2801b;: -Mr. J. Linley, Wright Street; Mr. T. J. Lewis, care of , Y.M.C.A.; Mi - . W. Moran, King Street; V. L. Allan, 127 Riddiford Street; Mr. M'Leod, Karori. Lowest guess, 281b.; highest guess, 8401b. P.eas and beans (correct number, 1012). —Winner, Mr. C. H. Grounsell, 29 Nelson Street, who guessed 1010. The lowest guess was 200, and the highest 27,893. Smollinf competition.—This competition was t'lio least successful in this section. Only some twenty-eight competitors endeavoured to guess tho contents of tho dozen bags. Mrs. W. O. Imrie. 31 •Tessio Street, and Mrs. A. S. Collins, Jackson Street, Islaud Bay, tied for first place with ton. correct guesses.The prizes for theso competitions may lie obtained from tho lion, treasurer, . Mr. Collins, City Treasurer, at the Town Hall. Sheep guessing.-The two .sheep were sent to the Ngahaitranga abattoirs yesterday, and tho weighing was kindly supervised by the manager, Mr. N. Mackley. The following is the result:—Live j' weight, ,2021b. Tho following tied for the prizes :—Messrs. E. J. Foote, 87 Kintoul Street; J Bowles, Hihitahi, Main Trunk; D. Carman, Queen's Drive, - Maranui, who each guessed 2601b. The dressed weight was 113|1b., and the prizes will bo divided botween Messrs. C. G. Wilson and C. Fisher, Lower llutt railway, who each guessed tho exact weight. Tho art union.—The art union drawing will- take "place at a grand concert in tho Town Hall, when a first-class concert programme by the leading artists of tho city will be given. Those who are assisting are:—Misses Phoebo Parsons, Eileen Driseoll, Muriel- Bennett, Mrs. Marie Queree; Messrs. Hamilton Hodges, S. N. Hutton, F. V. Waters, W. Cnton, H. N. Fletcher, Stanley Rankin, E. Hill, IT. l'hipps, It. S. Allwright, tho ' Orpheus Quartet Party; also the Post and Telegraph Choir. The admission will lie one shilling, with reserved seats two shillings, ■The box plan is now open at tho Dresden. The secretary of the Carnival yesterday received a donation of .£lO to the Carnival funds, from Mr. W. G.' Johnston. Electric light tennis.—This evening and to-morrow evening a plain and fancydress tennis tournament will bo hold on tho Brougham Hill Club's courts. Arrangements have been ;nade whereby musical items will be supplied by tli'o Fifth Regiment's battalion band.
