GORED BY A COW. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Invercargill, ,March 2G. A well-known resident, of Stewart 15.... .... land, Mr. James R. Thompson, was fatal- ; ly gored by a cow. on Tuesday. He left home in_ the .'morning to bring in the • cows, and not returning a search was instituted. His dead i body was found in tho ,bush, a horn having. penetrated tlio abdomen. Deceased was aged GO, and was '■ father of Miss Eri Thompson, the vocalist discovered by Madamo Melba. . TWO INQUESTS. . , Timaru, March 20. . Two inquests were hold to-day. Alfred Shepherd, aged 23, who had managed his father's farm at Sntherlands, was found in the orchard on Tues-1 day killed by a gun-shot'wound in tho head. An open verdict wrts returned, there being no evidence _a3 to how tho shot was fired. The constable said the gun might have caught in the trees. A'boy of cloven, Cecil Flfield, died from compression of the brain through falling on his forehead on iv stono when running down a sfeop'hijl near Geraldine.
