MASTERTON NOTES.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) Masterton, March 25. Tho eclipse ,of the moon was viewed from Masterton under favourable conditions, the' sky being almost cloudless. Arrangements liavo been made for the visit to this district of the 'Minister for Public Works. It is hoped that the j'rime Minister will find it convenient lo accompany tho lion. W. Eraser., as ho would then have an opportunity of seeing the Akitio district, in which it is alleeed certain aggregation has been proceeding in recent years. That the winter months sji'e anproach-. ing is evidenced by tho fact that tho animal meetings of local football and hockey clubs are about to be held. Tho MasteTton Football Club meets to-morrow evening. _ • . . The Waingawa freezing works continue to be very busy. Oil one day last \feek, no fewer than :!910 sheep and lambs were slaughtered, which is a record for tho works. The Masterton Bowling Club lias held a pairs tournament during the holidays. The finals have yet to bo played. A Masterton- family became suddenly ill after partaking of mushrooms for breaklast. Mr. C. S. Smith, who succeeds Mr. G. Falln as stationm-aster at Masterton, arrives from Mercer to-day. i Constable' Bird, who has been transferred to Auckland, left for tho northern city yesterday. We have handled several makes of' Cor? sots, but Warner's Rust-proof has outsold them all. Wellington drapers.—Advt.
