Tlio death is announced at his residence, Forth Street, Dunedin, of Mr. J. A. llislop. of tlio legal linn of Messrs. llislop and Lhng, in his (isth year. Mr. llislop was the second son of, the .late l)r. llislop, and a brother of the IJon. T. \V. llislop, of Wellington. He was born at Kirk, Newton, Mid Colder, Scotland, in 1&48. He arrived here with his, parents in 185 Cin the ship Strathmore. He was educated in Dunedin, and served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Smith, Anderson, and Co., lawyers, -High Street, qualifying as a barrister and solicitor, and afterwards taking up the practico of his profession. Mr. llislop was recognised as a high authority on law drafting, was a sound lawyer in every sense of tho word, and was a -straightforward and honourable man in all his dewls. lie was of u gonial disposition, and was highly respected by all sections of the community. He was well acquainted ,with tlio history of Otago, and 111 his latter days I delighted to discus.? tho subject with the "old identities."—"Otago Daily Times."
